Pet food can work out to bequite expensive when you consider how frequently it is needed. We all want todo as much as we can to care for our pets, but saving money is also animportant priority. Often, well-known brand names hike their prices up to coveradvertising and sponsorship costs. There are ways in which it is possible tosave money when buying supplies such as dog food and cat food. See thefollowing tips to bring down your shopping bill and still satisfy your pet.

    Saving Money – Bulk Buying

As with most commodities, the larger the quantity bought, the lower the price. For this reason, it isadvisable to buy your pet food in the largest bag you can find. You will noticethat proportionately, the smaller bags cost much more, so in the long run youwill save money. If you are worried about carrying these large containers home, why not buy online and have them delivered?

If your dog food consists ofraw feeding such as frozen meats or offal, you may want to think about buying asmall freezer just for freezing pet food. This means you will be able to buymuch larger quantities of meat and store it for longer periods.

The same principal appliesto cat food. Find online stores that will sell you large quantities of thetinned food and make plenty of room in which to store them all.

    Saving Money – Own Brands

Most of us know the leadingbrands of pet food that are available, and we tend to go for those first becausewe have known about them the longest, and we consider them to be of the highestquality. However, it can often work out much cheaper to buy non-branded dogfood.

The next time you goshopping for pet food, compare a tin of a leading cat food brand with a similarsupermarket or pet shop own brand. You will probably find that the differencein ingredients and nutrition is miniscule, or even non-existent. In fact, theonly difference you will find is the packaging and the cost! This is becausethey are more than likely made in the same place, but then resold as differentbrands.

Own brands can afford tosell the same pet food at a much lower cost because there is no need foradvertising or the middle man taking cuts of the profits.

Save Money and Make Your Own

The alternative to buyingready-made pet food is to make your own. Have a look online for some easyrecipes which can be cooked up and frozen.
