    The Best Dog House

If your dog lives outdoors, you can’t question the fact that the dog needs a dog house. However, it is important to consider what the dog house is made of, its structure and where it is located. Should it be made of wood or plastic? Should its door face north or south? What kind of insulation you should use and how much? You can find all the answers in this article about dog houses.

    Dog House Size
It is important not to choose either a dog house that is either too large or too small, because a dog will not feel good in it and may refuse to use it. If the dog house is too big, he will not be able to warm it up sufficiently with his body heat. It is also important that the door is not too large, nor too small, because either he won’t fit inside it or he will lose a lot of heat.

    Plastic Dog Houses
The plastic dog house is usually cheaper than wooden ones. The insulation is also good, but not better than the traditional 5 cm (or even thicker) insulation. Its great advantage is that it is light, so it’s easy to move. The disadvantage is that a major wind can easily move it around. A thermo curtain and lining may be required, which can be ordered and installed without any expertise. These supplements - regardless of the season - help to create the optimum temperature in the dog house.

    Wooden Dog Houses
Perhaps the best quality product is the dog house made of wood. Advantages: proper insulation, long life. The disadvantage is that because of its weight it is more difficult to handle and move. Many of these have removeable lids which make cleaning an easier task.

    The Panel Dog House
The panel dog house has an advantage of being easily transportable, because it’s made of multiple parts. It’s good to know that these dog houses have no roof coating (shingles, tiles) and are not treated. The disadvantage is that after a relatively short period of time after the assembly of the panels, they are weakened, and the house can easily be destroyed. Usually this type of dog house is not isolated.

    Insulation
We believe that at least a 5 cm thick insulation is required. The dog house becomes meaningless if we use polystyrene or nickel material for insulation, because it does not seal properly (not to be confused with the polystyrene insulation used in house building, Dryvit Systems). Also, if you add a thermo curtain it can make it so airless, that the dog could die in it. This unfortunately happens.

    Where do you put it?
As the dog likes to keep an eye on the gate and on the door of the house you should position the dog house in such a manner so he can do this, otherwise he will not use it. Preferably, the door of the dog house should face south, certainly not north.
