    Importance of Pet Health Insurance

    1.    Insurance can seem like an unnecessary expense when your pet is young, fit and healthy, but for long term peace of mind, it’s important to take out a pet care insurance deal from an early age, as sadly, you can never anticipate when your pet may require specialist veterinary attention.

    2.    Generally, most pet insurance deals will broadly cover all breed types within the species, but if you own a breed that is prone to health problems such as hip dysplasia, the premiums may be higher – so it’s worth shopping around to find the best deal for your particular animal.

    3.    Remember, some quotes may seem tempting initially but may not actually leave you feeling secure once the small print has been examined. Keep all your options open until you fully understand what a pet health insurance deal is offering.

    4.    Consider the practicalities of the quotes on offer – some companies may look for a lump sum, others may have more flexible payment schemes. Terms and conditions can differ significantly between quotes, so it’s important to establish exactly how much cover will be offered in the event of a medical problem arising and the length of time for which the insurance company is prepared to pay out.

    5.    Insurance schemes can range from comprehensive packages – covering everything from emergency treatments to X rays – to annual cover and individual condition cover, which are far more rigid in terms of the extent of cover offered. It’s also important to bear in mind that most pet health insurance deals will not cover pre-existing conditions and may not offer assistance for minor health complaints.
