Probably the most essential dog supplies you will have toown when you have a dog are a dog collar or a dog harness, possibly both. Thereare good reasons to use both types but a dog collar and a dog harness isdesigned to do the same function, give the owner control of the dog. These dogaccessories are available from a number of places; you can also search for dogaccessories for sale on Clickpets. Read on to find out more about choosing dogharnesses or a dog collar.

    Dog Collar

The dog collar is much more simple than a dog harness and isprobable the most common of all the dog accessories available. A dog collar isusually available in a number of different materials, cloth, woven nylon orleather. The latter two are the strongest and leather will become suppler withage.

Dog collars are useful on all types of dogs as a means ofattaching a lead and as a place to attach an identifying tag. A dog collar anda lead is the most common way of controlling a dog, a dog that is not used toor doesn’t like being on a lead however can pull on a dog collar.

Of all the dog supplies, the dog collar is probably the mostuniversally used but the dog collar is not suitable for use with a dog thatpulls excessively on the lead, a dog with respiratory problems, or dogs (likeChihuahuas) that have weak tracheas and necks. One of the advantages of the dogcollar is that it can be left on at all times and dog lead quickly attached toit. If for whatever reason you cannot use a dog collar, you can use one of theother more common dog accessories, the dog harness.

    Dog Harness

The dog harness performs the same function as a dog collarbut in a different way. The dog harness is attached to the dog’s torso in frontof the shoulders, around the neck and behind the front legs, under thechest/stomach area. Dog harnesses offer more control to the dog’s owner and arevery useful for dogs that pull on a conventional dog collar and lead.

Dog harnesses are widely used on small dogs that do not havethe neck strength to be able to cope with a collar or large dogs that have respiratoryproblems. Dog harnesses are also essential dog accessories that are used byprofessional dog handlers in law enforcement, search & rescue or as sleddogs.

Dog harnesses have their advantages in that they providemore control over the dog and it is nearly impossible for dogs to wriggle outof a dog harness. The disadvantage of a dog harness is that it can’t be left onat all times.

Regardless of which of these dog accessories you choose tobuy, you can search for all sorts of dog supplies on Clickpets.
