Spring Cleaning: Products that can hurt your pet

A rise in household products that can hurt your pet while cleaning

With spring on its way it may be time to do some Spring cleaning.

However take caution with the products that you are using. What may be safe to a human could be dangerous or even fatal to one of your pets.

One example given is that owners often put essential oils added for orange, lemon or peppermint scents in certain cleaners. This can give cat severe stomach aches.

Each cleaning product out there has a different level of concentrate and each pet has a different level of sensitivity as to what they can handle. Therefore it is wise to exercise caution when choosing to use such products.

Some useful tips when cleaning are:

    • Keep your pet away from the area being cleaned

    • Do not spray your pet with any fluids

    • Make sure animals, especially dogs do not chew on any of the products

    • Take extra special care when cleaning around a pets living/sleeping area

Basically a good rule of thumb is if it says on the label keep away from children then you should keep it away from your pets too.
