Hotel offers goldfish for lonely guests

Travelling and working away from home can be hectic. However, one hotel owner has a strategy to try and distress the guests that come to his hotel.

He has taken the unusual step of providing guests with the option of having a goldfish in their room for the night. You would book the fish in the same way that you would book a breakfast in the morning or if you want a suit ironed.

This can all be done online and comes at an extra charge of £5 per night to have the fish tank with a goldfish placed in your room.

The goldfish is named “happy”, honouring the hotel, which is called the Happy Guest Hotel Lodge and it is based in Dutton near Warrington. The owner of the hotel Jeff Riley believes that this unique offering can provide “unconditional love and a valuable sounding board”

“A lot of guests spend many days away from home. It can be lonely for those travelling alone, but now, when our guests return to their hotel rooms after a difficult day at the office, Happy could be there to give them unconditional love and a valuable sounding board,”

"Obviously it can’t talk back but it can wiggle its fins and swim around the tank – it will give guests someone to talk to and unload the troubles of the day."

If the new addition proves popular then Mr Riley plans to add more goldfish which people can order to stay in the rooms.

It is a well known fact that dogs can provide relief to humans who are under stress. It could be a useful technique to use a goldfish for the same purpose.
