A specially trained FBI dog named Ace has died after a police standoff in the USA. It was just his second mission on the team and just after two weeks of active service.

Ace was a Czech German Shepherd aged two years old who had just completed training in October 2012.

He was on a special mission to capture Kurt Myers who had gone on a rampage and had shot dead four people across the state.

It was the next day that he was found hiding in a disused building and the FBI were successfully able to track him down.

What followed was a 19 hour standoff between the FBI and Kurt Myers. However when Ace entered the building with cameras attached to his body Myers opened fire on the officers and caught the dog. Officers were able to then killer Myers.

Ace was rushed to a nearby vet in a secured vehicle however the vetenary clinic was not able to do anything.

The death is a huge blow to the team. Special Agent Ann Todd says that Ace made “the ultimate sacrifice for his team.” She adds that, “His actions were heroic and prevented his teammates from being seriously wounded or killed.”

This shows that the death of Ace inevitably saved the lives of humans and eliminated a highly dangerous criminal. His body will be returned to the FBI headquaters for a memorial.

It is not yet understand why Myers went on his rampage and caused so much chaos and pain although investigators are now trying to learn more.
